My Beaker Pen Cup

by Tony Thomas

I decided that I wanted to put some of my frequently used fountain pens in a cup on my desk for quick access.  But what kind of cup did I want to use?  A coffee cup?  A Ball jar?  Something else?

After thinking about it a bit, I decided it would be cool to put them in a lab beaker made of borosilicate (thermal shock resistant) glass.  After checking the measurements, I settled on a 250 ml beaker and placed an order on eBay.  The price was a bit more than $7 with shipping.

I think it has a high-tech look and the beaker is perfect for that purpose.  Where do you keep your frequently used pens?

  1. I have a four drawer chest for my good pens, and keep my customized pens in a Daisy sour cream pail, both in the closet. I keep a max of 6 pens on my desk, along with two whetstones and some emery boards.

  2. At the present I only have one I use all the time. It is a Jinhao X450 black with gold trim. It is laying on the base of my desk lamp.

  3. I use a Bosca Pencil cup for the current rotation and many others in a cigar box here in the store. Then a few in a leather pen case in the desk drawer. Some in my dresser.....wait I got um all over the place!! I need help.

  4. I use a leather pencil case from Bree.

  5. I recycle glass jars ... one just the right height for my pens (small pasta sauce jar), a different one for pencils (horseradish). Love the beaker idea though. LST
